How To Fix the Crunchyroll Black Screen on Chrome & App

Crunchyroll black screen on Chrome can be fixed by disabling Hardware Acceleration and clearing the site cache and data. When playing video, sometimes you can still hear audio, but no picture shows up. Black screen while streaming is not because of an error on Crunchyroll website, but because Chrome browser issue. The black screen can happen not only when you are streaming Crunchyroll, but other streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney Hotstar, and HBO Max.

Force Refresh Video Page

Force refresh will clear the cache for the current page and load the latest version of the page from the server. If any change has been made from your previous visit, this will make sure you get the latest version of the page.

Disable Hardware Acceleration

Hardware acceleration feature used by Chrome to improve performance using CPU, RAM, and GPU, but sometimes causes problems when streaming video. If you experience black screen when streaming Crunchyroll, try to disable this feature.

To disable Hardware acceleration, go to Chrome Settings > System > Disable Use hardware acceleration when available.

Chrome accumulates data for each website over time, and it sometimes causes some problems when open website or streaming video. This collected data can be deleted when you have problem opening or streaming.

You don’t need to clear all Chrome data & cache. If you have problem when streaming from Crunchyroll, you clear site data for Crunchyroll only.

1. Open https://www.crunchyroll.com/.

2. Click on Lock picture, and choose Site settings.

If still black screen still occurred, try to clear all data & cache.

1. Go to Chrome Settings > Privacy & security.

2. Click on Clear browsing data.

3. Thick on Cached images & files.

4. Choose Clear Data.

Now restart Chrome and try streaming on Crunchyroll.

Fix Black Screen on Crunchyroll App (Android & iPhone)

Black screen also can happen when streaming using Crunchyroll app. To fix black screen on Crunchyroll app all you have to do is clear the app cache & data. This is almost the same way as fixing black screen on Chrome.

1. Go to Android Settings > Apps.

2. Search for Crunchyroll.

3. Choose Force Stop.

4. Now Click on Storage, then choose Clear Data.

If after clearing data you still experience black screen, try to uninstalling the Crunchyroll app then install it again.

Clearing Crunchyroll Cache & Data on iPhone

Unfortunately, there is no way to clear app data on iPhone besides reinstalling the app.

1. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

2. Search for Crunchyroll.

3. Choose Delete App.

4. Now install Crunchyroll app from App Store.

Disable Proxy & VPN

If you are using proxy or VPN, it may cause the video not to load when streaming. Try to disable the proxy or VPN, then reload the page again.

Disable Ad Blocker

Even though Crunchyroll is a premium streaming service, blocking ads may cause black screen when streaming on Crunchyroll. To disable Ad blocker extension, click on the three dot on top right of Chrome browser, and choose More Tools > Extensions.
